The performance The Place of the Good Worker will be held on January 31, 2024, at 5:00 PM at the New Space of the Belgrade Dance Institute (Bulevar vojvode Mišića 43A).
The Place of the Good Worker, which addresses the social reality and issues of work in Serbian culture and education today, has brought together four authors and performers: the team consists of Milena Minja Bogavac, Frosina Dimovska, Ista Stepanov, and Dunja Crnjanski.
The performance includes elements of cabaret, lecture, and forum, and the initial situation is conceived as a self-help and support group meeting for four women, connected by their work experience. All four work in the arts and culture. All four work (or have worked) as teachers. In this performance, they consider the social reality and issues of work in culture and education in Serbia today.
The authors question what kind of teachers and teaching are needed today, what the role of education is in our society today (when the generational gap is counting fewer and fewer years), what the scope of influence of teaching and teachers on the young is, and how to deal with the inert mechanism of schooling, in which almost every essential attempt at modernization and experimentation is doomed to fail.
Given that the performance was created during the pandemic, while working on topics related to education, the authors also address the newly emerged issues of online teaching, continuity of work, new models of work and obligations of teachers, students, and parents, as well as the mental health of students and teachers.
