THE BELGRADE DANCE INSTITUTE’S PATRON DAY– THE HOLY THREE HIERARCHS 2023

The Belgrade Dance Institute will celebrate its patron saint’s day – The Holy Three Hierarchs – on February 12th at 11 am in the Crypt of the St. Sava Temple.

The Feast of Three Hierarchs is dedicated to three saints and the greatest enlighteners and teachers in the history of Christianity: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom. Although each of them has their own day of celebration in January, in the 11th century, during the reign of Emperor Alexios Komnenos, their joint celebration day was established. With their lives, work, and teachings, these three saints have marked not only the time in which they lived, but also Christianity itself. The immediate reason for the establishment of their joint feast day was due to disputes among the people about which of these three saints was greater. Some extolled Basil for his purity and courage, others Gregory for his incomparable depth and high intellect in theology, and the third, Chrysostom for his miraculous eloquence and clarity in the presentation of the faith. Because of their claims, they were known among the people as basilian, gregorian, and johnite. However, by God’s providence, this dispute was resolved for the benefit of the Church and for even greater glory to the three saints.
