PREMIERE OF THE DECAMERON DANCE PERFORMANCE

PREMIERE OF THE DECAMERON DANCE PERFORMANCE

The premiere of the dance performance Decameron 2020, choreographed by Mina Ćirić, was performed last night on the stage of the Vuk Theatre as part of the BELEF Festival.

Decameron 2020 is a dance story in ten parts. We turned the experience of isolation into scenes of individual recovery processes, with all the obstacles, failures, pain, mood swings, and humor as a defense mechanism. Searching for God in isolation, whatever kind of God it may be – that’s  how we articulated the topic at some point during the work process. Balance, the ability to be alone, the ability to trust others, patience in an uncertain situation, peace despite losing control – everyone was looking for their God / meaning / oneself / purpose. Some didn’t even know what they were looking for until they have found it, but the search meant something to them. Just like the characters of the famous Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio, we gathered to create a good story from something we have no control over, says the author and choreographer Mina Ćirić.

The play was performed by Mina Ćirić, Isidora Poledica, Natalija Jevtović, Tara Tanović, Tanja Ivanov, Anđela Žugić, Ana Obradović, Jelena Cvetković.

Decameron 2020 was created as part of Mina Ćirić’s master-degree thesis under the mentorship of prof. Dijana Milosević at the Belgrade Dance Institute. The songs of Jelena Stanković (Chorbika) were used in the play, the costume for the play was made by Miloš Janjić, and the choreographer’s advisor was Danka Sekulović.

The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.
