We invite you to the premiere of the dance performance “Mreža”, the doctoral artistic project of Alisa Oravec, which will take place on December 6, 2024. from 19:00 in SKC Belgrade.
The dance performance “The Network” explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on modern society, showing its possibilities to improve everyday life and offer solutions that advance technology and civilization. However, the play also points to the potential dangers posed by the development of VI, particularly through the opening of the Metaverse — the virtual worlds into which people increasingly immerse themselves. In that perfect world, people can feel comfort and convenience, but at the same time they are moving away from reality. Technology is monopolizing human attention, taking us more and more away from the natural, physical world. The play raises important questions about the nature of human curiosity and its tendency to exceed the limits of control, until the AI becomes almost identical to a human being, developing a new civilization in the Metaverse. In this context, the question whether YOU are becoming more “human” in the real world, while we are becoming more “YOU” in the virtual environment, is considered. Who actually caught whom in this net?
Through dance interpretation, the audience is encouraged to think about the boundaries between the real and virtual worlds, as well as where the boundaries between people and technology actually lie.
Dance movement is an introspective walk through thoughts and emotions, exploring the spaces of the inner world of each individual. Through dance, we dive into the depths of our own mind, revealing the wealth of our knowledge, experiences, memories and imagination. This inner search illuminates the divine nature of our being, reminding us of the uniqueness that makes us who we are. In the modern world, faced with advanced artificial implants that promise perfection and infallibility, the play invites us to preserve an essential part of ourselves — that unique, often imperfect, but unrepeatable divinity that constitutes our identity.
Although improving our knowledge, skills and physical attributes can bring a sense of exhilaration, that momentary feeling passes when we realize that we are becoming part of a perfect system where everyone is dancing to the same beat. It is in our nature to be unique and unrepeatable, not to follow the “system rhythm”. It is an in-depth understanding of personal identity and the nature of human existence that no artificial intelligence, no perfect technology, can take away from us — unless we allow it ourselves.
