PREMIERE OF GRADUATE PERFORMANCE
Virgina (BalkanAberIca)
On June 23rd, 2022, the graduate performance of student Tamara Ljesar from the Department of Stage Folk Dance and Music of the Belgrade Dance Institute, Virgina (BalkanAberIca) premiered at the crowded Vuk Theater.
Inspired by field work, many years of professional education, but also the knowledge acquired at the Institute, the author premieres a dance-drama concert based on tradition through a contemporary point of view. The life cycle of a man and his emotional states are presented through 5 choreographies, 4 of which are the author’s works. Each shows different doubts and struggles, as an integral part of life and growing up. In addition to the dance, music was also presented, through vocal-instrumental performance of traditional and composed melodies modeled on traditional music.
The name of the project describes it through the three most prominent segments.
BALKAN – a review of the climate and the people.
ABER – news that is transmitted, in this case, only a performance.
ICA – a vocal sequel for the female gender, which alludes to a woman artist.
The project was realized with the aim of presenting the tradition in a modern spirit, in the author’s own way.
