NEW NOVEL BY PROFESSOR MIOMIR PETROVIĆ

NEW NOVEL BY PROFESSOR MIOMIR PETROVIĆ

A new novel by our professor Miomir Petrović, released by the publishing house “Laguna”, is going to appear in the bookshops in the middle of August. Belgrade friends of a Film Art professor on a temporary job in one of the emirates imagine his life as if the one in a postcard. He lectures at an elite college, is sipping expensive drinks at reduced prices in luxurious exteriors, camping in the desert under the stars, going to parties with a group of friends born in the same country of Yugoslavia, and he does not even miss his family since his wife and son are together with him.

How can such a life be shaken by anything?

However, cultural patterns and arrogance of the foreign world will call his career into question. As an elegant prose writer and a careful observer of complex reality, in this novel Miomir Petrović conveys the atmosphere personal and global desert of the 21st century.

Stranded in that barren harbor where silence is hidden behind hundreds of fainting episodes, where abrasive and silk touches of sand merge with the hollow velvet of galaxies, the writer is  a homeless and a shipwrecked, an ascetic and a seeker, a narrator and a an impossible-mission her,  embraced by the omnipresent death, pursued by encounters with oneself that is possible to experience only by voluntary banishment into a central roar of one’s own inner desert.

— Blažo Popović, a journalist

Determined by the winds, the Central Desert is being erected by the builders gathered from all parts of the world, with their fragile knowledge and mother tongues, but also with arrogance and idolatry, the builders who forced by the dictated tempo of reality dissolve humankind in order to build a mirage by inner silence rebelled against despotism and tyranny.
