We invite you to the performance of Ivana Milenović Popović’s doctoral artistic project “Heritage”, which was created during the Doctoral Studies in Artistic Dance and Performance at the Belgrade Dance Institute , under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Snežane Arnautović Stjepanović.
The piece will be performed on November 8, 2024, starting at 8:00 p.m. on the “Kult” stage in the “Vuk Theater”, Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 77A.
HERITAGE
The protagonist’s internal conflict, as she moves through two personalities – one that seeks security and validation through adherence to patriarchal norms, and the other that resists these limitations – leads her to explore her own learned helplessness and self-discovery. Every aspect of her personality is a reflection of generational oppression and social conditioning that throughout history limits women’s autonomy. This duality confronts her with the sources of her own fears and behaviors that have been passed down through the generations. If she decides to reject the inner voice that advocates submission, will she begin to dismantle the mechanisms of patriarchy?
