Prof. Dr. Snežana Arnautović Stjepanović will hold a lecture entitled “Performative Body/The Body as a Manifesto of the Unconscious” on Friday, October 25th, in the Multimedia Hall of the Music Center of Montenegro in Podgorica starting at 6:00 p.m., ahead of the opening of the new season of the Montenegrin Ballet Ensemble.
In the lecture “Performative Body/The Body as a Manifesto of the Unconscious”, the body is viewed not only as a physical entity but also as a medium that expresses the unconscious – that which is hidden, repressed or unspoken. The performance relies on the body as a key instrument for exploring inner states, emotions and personal narratives, providing the audience with an immediate insight into the artist’s inner world.
In this perspective, the body becomes an extension of unconscious thoughts and feelings. Every movement, every gesture, and even the very presence of the artist in the performance, carries a meaning that goes beyond the conscious mind. The body “speaks” through performance, revealing aspects of personal experience or collective consciousness, which often remain invisible or unspoken in everyday life.
