IN MEMORIAM
Goran Mitrović, the champion and soloist of the Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs KOLO from Belgrade, passed away suddenly at the age of 51.
The news of the premature loss of a colleague, artist, pedagogue and one of the most brilliant folklore players of today, as reported by the parent company, is still accepted by colleagues in disbelief.
Goran Mitrović was born in 1970 in Belgrade. He was admitted to the Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs KOLO in 1990, and in 2006 he received the status of champion in which he achieved a large number of successful roles, the most famous of which are Gypsy Dance – choreography by Dobrivoje Putnik; Teskoto – choreography by Olga Skovran; Go pratile dedo – choreography by Dobrivoje Putnik; Komitas Games – choreography by Mira Sanjina; instrumentalist on Tapan in Triple Games; Goransko teškoto and others.
He staged a large number of independent choreographic compositions in his parent company and on other stages.
He collaborated with the Lujo Davičo Ballet School in Belgrade as a pedagogue of folk dance, with the ensembles AKDU Lola and AKUD Branko Krsmanović, as well as with the National Theater in Belgrade.
After graduating and specializing at the College for Training and Education of Teachers in Kikinda, he enrolled at the Belgrade Dance Institute in Belgrade, where he was mentored by Prof. Dijana Milošević acquired the title of Master Audio and Visual Artist – Artistic Play in 2020.
Goran was a leader, he was a colleague, he was a friend. Without him the ROUND will never be the same again. But the memory of him is what will carry us further, which will give us the strength to, in his honor, continue with song and dance. Glory to him, his collegues wrote from the Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs KOLO.
You can’t really say goodbye to him. We are in shock, there is no more of the best, but he left behind students who will always try to be the same, the best, because he wanted to. Because he did not know otherwise, his collegues wrote from Abrašević on the occasion of the death of Goran Mitrović, our artistic director of Pančevo’s Abrašević (2014-2021).
Colleague Mitrović was a golden example that the desire for learning, research, re-examination and constant work never stops. It didn’t take long for his exceptional master’s work “Basic theatrical persistence in music and stage works – choreography and its problems of creation today” to decide to go a step further and become a candidate for Doctoral studies. We were days away from that new meeting, the Belgrade Dance Institute announced.
