ACADEMIC FOLKLORE ENSEMBLE PERFORMED IN IZMIR

Members of the Academic Folklore Ensemble from the Belgrade Dance Institute, the vocal group Đurđe, and the youth orchestra of the Cultural-Artistic Society Svetozar Marković from Novi Sad participated in the international folklore festival called the Mandarin Flower Festival of Arts in Izmir, Turkey, from May 21st to 25th of this year.

These three sections presented themselves to the audience of Menderes and Izmir with the divertissement Sude mi je vedro nebo and a dance featuring the Dubočka Rusalja tradition. During their first performance, the representatives of Serbia won the sympathy of other participating countries, the audience, the mayor, and the festival organizers. In addition to a participation diploma, our performers received an award for the best performance and an award for the best vocal group.

After presenting Serbia, the ensemble was invited to participate in Izmir next year, and Latvia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Georgia also joined the invitation.

During their six-day stay in Turkey, in addition to concerts, members of the Academic Folklore Ensemble visited the cities of Izmir and Istanbul, the House of the Virgin Mary, and went on a cruise.

The Academic Folklore Ensemble was established last year within the Belgrade Dance Institute, under the leadership of Boban Kostić, a master’s student at the Belgrade Dance Institute.
