IN HONOR OF BIZET AND RAVEL

On the occasion of World Dance Day, celebrated worldwide, the ballets ‘Carmen Suite & Bolero‘ choreographed by Prof. Aleksandar Ilić premiered on Friday, April 25th, at the Opera & Theatre Madlenianum.

Uniting these two titles in a single performance, conceived by the director of opera and ballet of the Madlenianum Theatre, Nikola Mijailović, the event paid special tribute – as an homage to two great figures – marking the 150th anniversary of the death of Georges Bizet and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Maurice Ravel, merging the works of these two great composers into a unique artistic experience.

A noteworthy detail is that these most famous compositions from the great opuses of these two French composers are both thematically linked to Spain.

The title role of Carmen was played by Gala Jovanović, a soloist of the Vienna State Opera, while the soloists of the Belgrade National Theatre ballet, Aleksandar Polupanov (Don José), Toma Križnar (Escamillo), Nikola Bjanko (Zuniga), and Feodora Grujić (Fate), a students at the Belgrade Dance Institute, performed alongside her.

Over 20 young dancers performed in the ensembles of both ballets.

The first rerun of “Carmen Suite & Bolero” will be performed on May 9th.
