GUEST TEACHING BY ALEX KROS

The Greek choreographer and contemporary dance pedagogue, Alex Kros, will hold guest teaching from November 3 to 14 at the Belgrade Dance Institute.

He was educated in the fields of classical ballet and contemporary dance, visual arts, film, and theatre. These diverse disciplines have allowed him to freely cross the boundaries between visual art and dance, creating performances that are accessible to the widest variety of audiences. Born in Greece, he completed undergraduate studies in Economics, and studied dance at the Greek State School of Dance (K.S.O.T) and the Rallou Manou Professional Dance School, as well as acting and directing at a higher art school.

His works are characterized by strong visual images, fascinating lighting atmospheres, and subtle dance movements that combine diversity, fluidity, and precision. Artistically, he describes himself as a “bipolar” creator, as his creations are sometimes hyperactive and sometimes minimalistic. He explores the limits of the human body, the way it can transmit energy—both through movement and through stillness.

His choreographies have been produced by institutions such as Stadttheater Bremerhaven (Germany), Staatstheater Oldenburg (Germany), Greek National Opera – Ballet (Greece), Royal Ballet School of Flanders (Belgium), Balletto di Roma (Italy), Ballet du Nord / CCN Roubaix (France), La Verita Dance Company (Belgium), and the Conservatory of Mechelen (Belgium), among others.

Since 2014, his artistic work has focused on creating multidisciplinary performances that integrate dance, visual arts, and film techniques.

He was awarded the best young choreographer in 2015 at the Les Lendemains qui Dansent competition (France), and his works have been nominated for awards such as Berner Tanz Preise (Switzerland), Rotterdam International Duet Competition (Netherlands), No Ballet Choreographic Competition (Germany), Machol Shalem International Choreographic Competition (Israel), and Le Grande Scène / Petites Scènes Ouvertes (France).

His projects are supported by international theatres and organizations such as Scène Nationale Dunkerque / Le Bateau Feu (France), Centre Chorégraphique National Roubaix (France), EPCC La Barcarolle – Spectacle Vivant Audomarois (France), Choreographic Centrum Heidelberg (Germany), TROIS C-L – Centre de Création Chorégraphique Luxembourgeois (Luxembourg), DeSingel (Belgium), and C-Takt (Belgium).
