APRIL MEETINGS 2023
April Meetings is a traditional annual event organized by the Student Cultural Center of Belgrade – a festival of active multidisciplinary events that bring together a large number of young artists, primarily students from various artistic faculties, in one place and at the same time. This year, they will try to overcome the classical boundaries of artistic creation through a series of activities, including exhibitions, video works, performances, new theater forms, concerts, workshops, space installations, and choreographic improvisations.
All segments of the April Meetings, from its establishment until today, have primarily had a unique educational character for numerous generations of young people who have discovered and developed their skills and talents and tested themselves in various artistic fields. This will be an opportunity for the audience to get acquainted with the works of young people whose time is yet to come.
The works in the form of choreographies, multimedia installations, video works, and performances that students from undergraduate, master, and doctoral studies of the Belgrade Dance Institute will present have been created under the mentorship of Prof. dr Snežana Arnautović Stjepanović, Prof. Dijana Milošević, Prof. Dušica Pejić, Ognjen Vučinić, and Doc. Katarina Bućić.
All programs within the April Meetings are free, so we invite you to be a part of this festival story.

RAIN DOGS
Fantastic Belgrade TRIBUTE TO TOM WAITS BAND with a tradition of more than a decade, thanks to its unique interaction with the audience and excellent interpretation, fills Belgrade clubs creating a kind of musical/poetic performance.
Rain Dogs, led by frontman Nenad Vasić, with their energy manage to take the audience to a smoky New York bar that you don’t enter before midnight and where, between the seductive sound of the saxophone and rough vocals, the small city night magic comes to life.
Nenad Vasić – vocals
Aleksandar Stanković – bass
Branko Stanisić – keyboards
Aleksandar Vujošević – drums
Srđan Jevtović- saxophone
Nikola Džekulić – guitar

DECONSTRUCTION OF MOVEMENT
inspired by the works of Vasily Kandinsky Dance curves
project author: DUŠICA PEJIĆ
The project was created as a result of the work of Professor Dušica Pejić with master’s and doctoral students at the Belgrade Dance Institute, as part of the Synergy and Transformation course. The works will be exhibited in a large exhibition format (canvas prints and visual objects on acrylic panels).
During the course work, research was conducted into different ways of connecting artistic dance and visual representation. Changing focus develops and enriches our approach to reality and life through a different way of thinking, observing, and realizing.
The Deconstruction of Movement project was created inspired by the works of Vasily Kandinsky Dance curves, which is one of the ways of connecting performing and visual arts. Students transposed movement created in the ballet hall space onto a visual plane, using photography as a medium, and then through drawing and painting reduced the body line to an abstract form.
Artist-dancers, inspired by some of the dance poses, and by changing perception, realized visually abstract artistic works.
DUŠICA PEJIĆ, MA in painting, completed her master’s and bachelor’s studies at the Department of Painting at the Academy of Arts, University of Novi Sad.
She completed her specialist studies at the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Belgrade.
She graduated from the Higher School of Applied Arts in Belgrade, in the Graphic Design department.
She exhibits in solo and group exhibitions in Serbia and abroad.
She is one of the eight most prominent abstract-oriented authors in Serbian painting in Serbia after 2000, in the project of Vasily B. Sujić.
She explores and collaborates on projects connecting and networking different artistic expressions.
She received the Acknowledgment of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts Branch in Novi Sad in 2018, the award for work from the Tesla Art Foundation in Belgrade in 2017, the award for contribution and collaboration with ArtFest@Doral in Miami, USA, in 2014, and the award for drawing from Interkomerc Bank in Belgrade in 1998.
She is a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS) and the international association of artists ArtFest@Doral, Miami, USA.

“BELGRADE IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH”, photographs
Exhibition authors: Ranka Hrvaćanin and Goran Redžepi, photography professors
A collective exhibition of works by young authors in the subject and section of photography is the result of a one-year basic course in learning photography through the regular teaching program, as well as the photography section, which combine the mastery of technical-technological and visual-aesthetic foundations. Through a series of exercises in which visual elements are learned and applied in the field of photography, students are given a solid foundation to elevate their work above the school standard and average in all segments.
The specificity of photographic processing of various visual elements is the entry into texture and structure, form and shape, and by choosing the compositional frame and the most adequate lighting, it gets the framework of visual resolution ranging from concrete to abstract.
By introducing the topic of a photo essay as the culmination of work in the final annual exercise, students have the opportunity to round out their work in photography, introducing, in addition to visual-aesthetic elements, a story, atmosphere, environment, affinities towards certain themes, motives, and even parts of the city.
By choosing works for exhibition and examining preferences towards types of motives, the exhibition’s name spontaneously emerged, hiding city views that best demonstrate its diversity, as well as various authorial approaches.

Gina Pane (1939-1990, Gina Pane), Paris – Life, Death, Dream, Performance.
By activating her body in public space, Gina Pane understood the terms of space and time as materials for such works that seek to transform the individual through desired communication with the Other. All that remains of them today is photographic documentation of carefully selected moments and the performative object itself.
Team A3 – Action and Anonymous Attraction Team, Belgrade – The Effect of Theater Costume, first street action; members of the Team participating: Mladen Jevđović, Slavko Timotijević, Jugoslav Vlahović, Rista Banić and friends. The idea was to examine the effect of theater costume outside the theater scene, that is, its effect on the widest audience (random passers-by), which justifies the Team’s constant commitment to unconventional treatment of visual and theatrical forms, as well as situations.

” … He tried to create a completely unusual and extraordinary environment based on light effects and the action of multicolored light on the intensity of color … he also included progressive music as a supporting element of the interior.”

“… What the artist or any creative person does must be intended for others. The more people work for others, the more human they are. When people have the same conditions, a new sculpture will emerge. The work of each individual must be not for themselves but above all for others. Human beings are capable of dedicating things within themselves and outside themselves.”
